Jammu, Feb 19 (KNO): The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Thursday informed the House that introduction of core science subjects at Government Degree College (GDC) Magam is subject to creation of necessary infrastructure and availability of funds.
Replying to a question tabled by MLA Beerwah Dr Shafi Ahmad Wani regarding degree colleges, the government, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said, “Environmental Science as a value-added course and Computer Applications as a major subject are already being taught at GDC Magam. However, for introduction of core science subjects such as Physics, Chemistry and Biology, and for offering Environmental Studies as a major subject, establishment of a dedicated Science Block with well-equipped laboratories is mandatory.”
“A proposal supported by a Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been submitted by the Principal of GDC Magam and will be examined subject to availability of funds,” the reply stated.
Regarding introduction of Mass Communication and Fashion Technology disciplines in Government Degree College Beerwah, the government said, “There is currently limited demand for these disciplines.”
It informed that Mass Communication is presently being offered at Government Degree College Baramulla, GCW MA Road, GCW Nawakadal, Amar Singh College and GDC Anantnag in the Kashmir Division, where enrolment and admission demand have been on the lower side.
However, the department said it remains receptive to proposals for introduction of new disciplines. It added that once any college, including GDC Beerwah, demonstrates sustained demand for Mass Communication or Fashion Technology along with feasibility, the same shall be facilitated to ensure effective delivery of education—(KNO)
